According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Ascension Parish was the fastest growing parish in Louisiana between April 1, 2000 to July 1, 2006.  The Bureau estimates growth of 27% over this period, placing Ascension as the 78th fastest growing county nationwide, and resulting in a population of nearly 100,000.

In order to manage growth throughout Ascension Parish, the governing authority has adopted a Subdivision Ordinance to promote orderly development.  The Planning Office has the authority to enforce the Subdivision Ordinance, which governs the division of property in Ascension Parish.
