TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTESrnTUESDAY, JANUARY 10, 2017 – 5:30 PMrnrnThe meeting of the Transportation Committee was held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Meeting Room, Courthouse Annex located at 828 S. Irma Blvd., Gonzales, Louisiana.rnrnChairman Todd Lambert called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm.rnrnMembers Present: Chairman Todd Lambert, Councilwoman Terri Casso, Councilman Aaron Lawler and Councilman Oliver Joseph. rnrnMembers Absent: Councilman Dempsey LambertrnrnCouncilman Joseph entered the public meeting at 5:32 p.m.rnrnThe invocation was given by Councilman Aaron Lawler and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all present.rnrnAgenda Item #3 Public Comments Period / Additions to AgendarnrnNo one signed up to speak on any agenda items.rnrnAgenda item #4 Acceptance of minutes of December 13, 2016 meeting rnrnA motion was made by Councilwoman Terri Casso and seconded by Councilman Aaron Lawler to accept the minutes of the December 13, 2016 meeting as written. No objections. Motion carried. rn rnAgenda Item #5 Chairman’s Report/Announcementsrnrn Chairman Todd Lambert had no items for discussion.rnrnAgenda Item #6 DPW Report & Committee Concernsrn rn Public Works Director Bill Roux presented an updated report for current road construction projects and work performance for the month of December 2016. Work normally slows down during the holiday season and equipment is being serviced in preparation for the upcoming year.rn rnBill also updated the committee on the status of the annual Mowing/Litter contract negotiations with LA DOTD. He will have a draft for presentation to the committee once received. He then proceeded to give updates on current road projects in the parish and options for bond money financing in preparation for future widening projects resulting from the comprehensive plan currently being drawn up for the parish. Bill then suggested the idea of the establishment of a Steering Committee and its’ goals and stakeholders in conjunction with the Master Transportation Plan being compiled by HNTB for the parish. He offered taking suggestions for a date and time via communications from the committee members. Chairman Lambert reported complaints to him on the current construction project on Duplessis Road and the existing poor conditions. Mr. Joey Tureau gave an update on the new Wal-Mart being constructed. rnrnAgenda item #7 – Authorization to advertise for bids for the Edenborne Connector to St. Landry Road rnrn Bill updated the committee on the Edenborne Connector to St. Landry Road Project which calls for a four-lane highway to connect St. Landry to LA 44. Right-of –way has been procured for the project. The estimated $5 million project would help relieve traffic congestion from the plants and businesses on La. 30 and also help with events held at Lamar Dixon Expo Center. Bill reported that the project may be redesigned and done in phases, possibly beginning with a two-lane highway as a first phase. The committee agreed to move forward with the project if the parish will get reimbursement for the project from DOTD. Councilman Lawler made a motion to approve moving forward with bid advertising. Councilwoman Casso made a second to the motion No objection. Motion passed to council for approval. rnrnA motion to adjourn was made by Councilman Lawler and seconded byrnCouncilwoman Casso. The public meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
