DESCRIPTION:June 26\, 2021 \nCabela’s \nCabela’s is hosting American Cancer Society’s Luminaria Trail as a part of their 2021 Relay for Life. Even though the Relay will be different this year\, there are many things that will hold true to the traditional Relay for Life. \nOpening Ceremony\nTime to get started. We kick off the event by honoring everyone who’s been affected by cancer and everyone who has contributed to the success of this year’s Relay season. \nSurvivor/Caregiver Walk\nSurvivors and Caregivers are the heart and soul of Relay For Life events. We honor their strength and courage with every step they take. It doesn’t matter if you were diagnosed 10 days ago or 10 years ago\, you can walk while everyone gathers together to cheer you on. \nLuminaria Ceremony\nDuring this ceremony we represent everyone touched by cancer with a Luminaria. Each light represents a life—a life taken by cancer\, a survivor of cancer\, or a support for a person still fighting the disease. It’s a powerful demonstration that gives people the opportunity to grieve but also offers comfort and hope. \nClosing Ceremony\nOur closing ceremony is the time to commit to take action and help lead the fight for a world free from cancer. DESCRIPTION:Ascension Parish Library announces a new project\, funded by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities\, to digitize our local history. Registration required. Space may be limited. \nAscension Parish Library is launching a new ongoing project entitled A Photographic History of Ascension Parish. With funding from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities\, the library is asking for your help in preserving the unique history of our parish. Join us at the library to learn more about this project and for a sneak peek at some of the historic documents we have already collected. Speakers will include program scholar Dr. Edward Benoit\, coordinator of the archival studies and cultural heritage resource management programs at LSU\, and local historian Ira Babin. This event can be attended either in person at our Gonzales location or virtually on Zoom. Registration required. Space may be limited.
