Code Enforcement

Our mission is to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the community by administering and enforcing building codes and ordinances with integrity, efficiency, and professionalism. We are committed to providing clear guidance, timely permit processing, thorough inspections, and fair code enforcement to support safe construction and sustainable development.
What We Do
Code Enforcement serves as the first line of defense for maintaining safe and healthy housing. It is responsible for the compliance and enforcement of numerous codes and ordinances, including the property maintenance and land development codes, to preserve the quality and value of public and private property by eliminating conditions that threaten the life, health, safety, and general welfare of residents.

To submit a complaint concerning a property that may be in violation of ordinances, please contact the Citizen Service Center at (225) 450-1200 to initiate a formal complaint. A citizen service representative will gather details about the location and type of issue. It is essential to provide the property’s address.
The Code Enforcement Officer will inspect the property at the earliest opportunity, usually within 24 hours of receiving your complaint. If a violation is confirmed, the officer will issue a notice of violation.
