Flood Mitigation Assistance Money is Available

The National Flood Insurance Fund (NFIF) is a FEMA fund that uses money appropriated by Congress to pay for activities and programs that reduce or eliminate flood insurance claims. That includes money to raise or elevate your home.

How Do You Qualify?

You MUST have flood insurance to qualify for this program, and you must maintain flood insurance coverage while you own the property. If the property is sold, the new homeowner/s must maintain flood insurance on the property.

How Does This Work?

This program pays to physically raise flood-prone structures above the base flood elevation.

It requires a cost match of up to 25% by the homeowner. Your home MUST be considered as a severe repetitive flood loss property, then the funding can be up to 100%. The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) also offers assistance of up to $30,000 to assist in elevating your home.

You are responsible for any costs not funded by this program.

Please note this is not a quick process. Approval from FEMA may take up to 2 years. You will be notified by Ascension Parish Government when your property is approved.
