Preserving our History

Ascension Parish Library announces a new project, funded by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, to digitize our local history. Registration required. Space may be limited.

Ascension Parish Library is launching a new ongoing project entitled A Photographic History of Ascension Parish. With funding from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, the library is asking for your help in preserving the unique history of our parish. Join us at the library to learn more about this project and for a sneak peek at some of the historic documents we have already collected. Speakers will include program scholar Dr. Edward Benoit, coordinator of the archival studies and cultural heritage resource management programs at LSU, and local historian Ira Babin. This event can be attended either in person at our Gonzales location or virtually on Zoom. Registration required. Space may be limited. Funding for Rebirth PL grants has been provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and administered by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH) as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act economic stabilization plan. Additional funding is provided by the Union Pacific Foundation.
